چکیده

The transformation of zero-field-cooled (ZFC) magnetization curves of PLD MgB2 films annealed in situ for different dwell times and at different temperatures is studied within the context of structural analysis. The PLD films were deposited using an off-axis geometry followed by two series of annealing conditions: the dwell time series and the annealing temperature series. ZFC magnetization curves were obtained in an MPMS magnetometer from samples that had been cut into similar shapes. XRD scans on the two series of film samples show enhanced (001) and (002) MgB2 peaks till a dwell time of 9 min at a 650 ◦C and a 800 ◦C annealing temperature. TEM results show a granular transformation from an un-annealed film to a 700 ◦C 9 min in situ annealed film. The possible structural development with annealing time and annealing temperature is then discussed. (Some figures in this article are in colour only in the electronic version)

Effective vortex pinning in MgB2 thin films

We discuss the pinning properties of MgB2 thin films grown by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) and by electron-beam (EB) evaporation. Two mechanisms are identified that contribute most effectively to the pinning of vortices in randomly oriented films. The EB process produces low defected crystallites with a small grain size providing enhanced pinning at grain boundaries without any degradation of ...

Ion beam synthesis of superconducting MgB2 thin films

Superconducting MgB2 thin films have been fabricated by 80 keV B ion implantation into commercial Mg ribbon with B doses up to 10 ions/cm, followed by thermal annealing at 500 °C. Temperature dependent dc magnetization measurements confirmed superconducting phase transitions between 11 and 18 K for samples containing nanocrystalline MgB2 grains embedded in Mg substrate with a small amount of Mg...

ENERGETIC CONDENSATION GROWTH OF MgB2 THIN-FILMS FOR SRF APPLICATIONS*

We report single-step vacuum growth of stoichiometric superconducting thin films of MgB2, using AASC’s cathodic arc deposition process. Energetic condensation using cathodic arcs produces non-equilibrium fast ions (~50-100eV) that allow growth modes on relatively low temperature substrates. We have demonstrated MgB2 films with Tc of 34K by depositing at 275 °C in a single step, from a stoichiom...

Evolution of microstructure in nanocrystalline MO-Cu thin films durSng thermal annealing

The evolution of microstructure in MO-Cu thin films during annealing has been investigated by in situ sheet resistance measurements, ex situ x-ray diffraction, and ~PZ situ hot-stage as well as conventional transmission electron microscopy. MO-Cu thin films, deposited on various glass substrates by magnetron sputtering at -30 “C, were supersaturated solid solutions of Cu in MO with a nanocrysta...

High quality MgB 2 thin films in - situ grown by dc magnetron sputtering

Thin films of the recently discovered magnesium diboride (MgB2) intermetallic superconducting compound have been grown using a magnetron sputtering deposition technique followed by in-situ annealing at 830°C. High quality films were obtained on both sapphire and MgO substrates. The best films showed maximum Tc = 35 K (onset), a transition width of 0.5 K, a residual resisitivity ratio up to 1.6,...
